Allen is passionate about a few things: God, his family, and a life that includes good barbecue, bluegrass music, hiking, college sports, and stock car racing. In that order: God, family and a full life of joy.
Talk radio is a natural fit for Allen. He loves to talk, and he loves people. Plus, he is full of opinions (and maybe a little wisdom too). Allen was a Methodist pastor for nearly 20 years, including 8 years at one of the largest Methodist congregations in the world (between 4,000 - 5,000 people attending each week). That has taught him a lot about faith. As a former businessman, he has experienced a lot of life. As a father of two teenage girls, he has learned a lot about real life and faith. In January 2008, Allen converted to become a layperson in the Catholic Church.
Allen was born at a very young age (ok, I think Allen thinks he was funny when he told me this, just laugh along). He grew up in the mountains in Brevard, North Carolina, and then graduated from high school in Lakeland, Florida. As a kid, he loved baseball and all things athletic. He memorized baseball box scores and NCAA tournament pairings. But the Church has usually (but not always) been a significant influence in his life.
Before entering the ministry, Allen worked in business and wandered away from God's plans for a while. Allen quickly discovered that a life serving himself, his own pleasures, and his own plans did not result in much. One day, while entering a Wall Street high-rise in New York, Allen stepped over a homeless man lying on a subway grating for warmth. At that pivotal moment, God taught Allen that it was time to leave behind his own plans and embrace God's plans for his life. A life of serving others and following Jesus. Allen then became a minister. And he has never looked back.
Allen and his wife, Anita, met in college at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. Along the way, Anita helped Allen earn a Ph.D. in New Testament from Yale University. Together, they enjoy a life devoted to loving God and helping people discover God's purposes. They now have two daughters, SarahAnn and Griffin.
What others are saying
- Narance WhiteNarance,
Thank you for listening to the show. However, you fail to listen to what I said. The Islamic terrorist in Mumbai said that they were "looking for white people." That is not me nor is it a lie. It is a factual quote from the perpetrator of the evil. Fact. Not opinion. - Right WingersI find that one of the most divisive and polarizing entities in America today is the ill-fated and unethical war of choice against Iraq. The Iraqi invasion was based on absolute lies, deceit and deceptions. The next most divisive and polarizing entities in America are the vast right-wing pundits. Especially, all of the anti-American irascible right-wing talk show wackos who spew their unadulterated hate over our public airways, daily. The Republican Party controls this vast right-wing media, completely. They are a bunch of right-wing sycophants who are also war-mongering chicken hawks. They are more embolden, brazen, and vicious than ever before. They are poison and/or venomous to race relations and the political process in this country. None of them have a history of being an accomplished doer. However, all of them are unequivocal accomplished acid tongue haters who viscerally attack, demonize, smear, impugn, besmirch and/or campaign against all Democratic candidates and their ideas, including Democratic spouses. None of them are doers, but, they are all pseudo experts at slandering others while sitting on their pompous rear-ends running their collective mouths. They overtly cast poignant aspersions, malign, smear, criticize. They politically and personally attack anyone (and everyone) who may sympathize with the Democratic philosophies and principles of fairness and equal rights. The right-wing wackos are unrestraint with their mean-spirits and are vile in their attacks. They are ruthless and disgusting. ALLEN HUNT, I find you to be worst than all of the right-wing miscreants because you come over the public airways under a cloak and/or a façade of Christianity. I heard you say that the so-called terrorists in India were there to kill White people. No one reported that other than you. That kind of comment is race baiting and you are an absolute and/or A blatant liar.
- tonight's showHi Allen, tonight about 7:45 you mentioned "Catholic Christians" and I realized I've never heard someone say Baptist Christians, Lutheran Christians or Methodist Christians, why Catholic? About 10 minutes later you said "Catholic or Christian", and I thought a Catholic was a Christian. Clarify please. Thank you
- Is is volume or quality of the calls?I listen to you when I turn my radio on at night before I go to bed. I will say this. You have a habit of cutting people off especially if they have a difficult situation they are talking about. If the intent is to only speak superfically to people, then ok. But have a bit of empathy on some of these folks. You sometimes just act like you want volume vs quality of a call or perhaps changing a persons life to Christ...
- Rejecting the ill/handicapped from citizenshipI sympathize with your viewpoint re Aus.trialian rejection for citizenship. However, I would like to remind you had a similar policy in the 1800's . At Ellis Island, immigrents were screened for eye & other deseases and were rejected for admission to the U. S. if they didn't pass - and hence would pose a burden on the U. S.!!!
- AgendaI was just listening to your show and it left me wondering what exactly is your agenda? Is it politics or your attempt to brow beat others into "believing" as you do? LISTEN with your heart, not just your ears, to what callers are saying. You may just learn something.
- moderate?I was hoping to hear Herman Cain...what is this? You sound pretty moderate. You seem all to willing to take a particular politician at his word, when the evidence seems to say that he is lying. You know what lies in the middle of the road? A yellow stripe and a dead skunk......
- Your Missing ItI have been listening for quite some time to be fair and open. But I gotta say that when I'm listening to your show I feel as if I'm back in the pews at the methodist church I once attended. I stopped claiming labels, including the "methodist" label due to division in the church and not really seeing what Christ had for us. Your show on giving was a big point on why I left the Methodist Church. You quickly dismissed a wonderful woman from Mcdounagh because she said "how dare you judge someone on weither they choose to claim donations to chairity on their tax returns." Your words of responce echo that of the Pharasees! Christ said to give with a cheerful heart but not for the whole world to see. Give in secret. Your reward will be in Heaven for those who do not show their gifts and donations to those in need. Now I cannot say that I walk the straight and narrow. I too, am a sinner! And as for Sarah Palin, do not dismiss who the Lord Chooses to work through. And even beyond that point, you say that politics do not matter on your show. Then WHY are you bringing them up night after night? Be straight with those who choose to listen because teacher are held to a higher standard.
- Obama in 08McCain is a sore loser!!! I guess he never heard that you should look a man in the eye if you are talking to him!!
- Black man for presidentObama - never
J C Watts - absolutely
The difference is their worldview!! - Polls about ObamaAllen, I have my dial set on 750 and while driving Sunday evening I made the mistake of listening to your show again. You claim to have some degree in New Testament but it seems you missed a lecture or two. You claimed we are all children of God. Please read 1st John, chapter 3, verses 9 and 10 and it clearly shows you are wrong. I could go on but I will leave this for you to ponder. In Christ, Ken
- Your PresentationHaving had to listen to you the other night, I can say you skipped the "humility" part of being a Christian. I have never heard anyone talk so much about themselves and their delusional self worth. Lighten up on patting yourself on your back - you ain't all that!
- youI have thought for a long time you are just another "man of God" who is after fame and fortune. To give up a church so you could reach a bigger audience is just another way of saying you're greedy. I have tried to listen, but you're just another liberal trying to make it on talk radio.
- Gov PalinSaturday night was the first time I had to turn you off. Gov Palin had only been nonimated for 56 hours when you started attacking her on not be a devoted mom. Me and my wife were disappointed.
- Gov PalinGov Palin can obviously take care of her 5 children the same as, I have no doubt, that O'Bama can take care of his 2 and Biden and McCain take care of their children plus many grandchildren. I'm sure they all appreciate Hunt's concern. ON other matter concerning the story of Churchill and the john. As I recall the john had offered a woman some money for a service then haggled over the price. Somehow the john's roll in this got lost in the telling of the story. The john told the woman what she was, but made no mention of himself being a john. Kind of smacks of sexism doesn't it?
- The AFLAC Childrens cancer TelethonSalutations & Congratulations: WSB and Allen. I am Chip from Columbia SC. The man that gave you by the will of the Almighty, the #2 person on your list of great athletes. Pastor I did not get a chance to hear who your #1 athlete was? My guess would be Muhammed Ali or perhaps the late Minister of Defense, the legend Reggie White? My best to you and yours & your congregation and especially WSB and it's listeners I am sure that million plus dollars will make God smile and lots of people happy!!!

(Christian and former SSGT,US Air Force Police and Special Operations 1984-Dec 2001,Active and Reserve Security Forces) - Obama's answers to Rick WarrenAllen, I listened to your show Sunday on the way home from work and I surely believe you were duped by Obama. You kept saying the word brilliant and you were ecstatic about his relationship with Jesus answer. I personally don't believe him for a second. He is a smart man and he knew Rick Warren would ask him a question similar to what he did. He had plenty of time to prepare his answer and say what he thought Rick and you wanted to hear. I believe this man to be evil and I don't believe anything he says. Whenever he answers a question you can always tell if he already has the answer in his head or he has to adlib. If he doesn't have an answer, like the one RIck asked him about when a fetus begins life, he stutters and wanders aaround for an answer. The many times the media calls him a great orater is when he has had time for his staff to write down what he will say. Again, I find it hard to believe that you actually believe this guy really has a heart for Jesus.
In Christ, Ken - PanhandlersI listened to Rev. Hunts show about To give or not to give to street panhandlers. His attitude and love of people is admirable but in some ways flawed in that he suggests to give and not to judge. On the contrary it is highly appropriate to judge a situation as to whether or not it is right or wrong!
It is not kind to deal with sick people in a way that enables them to continue to be sick. For example to hand money to a drug addict to buy more drugs is wrong. Likewise a panhandler who is a liar and thief should not be rewarded with a cash offering that encourages more of the same offensive conduct.
Would it not be better to judge what help a sick person needs and then go the extra mile to help this person? Guide or take this person to a shelter, church, or hospital where real help is available. Give your cash to needy organizations that practice care of the sick and homeless. Try not to be an enabler that further oppresses the down and out lost in our society.
God bless Rev. Hunt to teach others how to help the needy. - daughterI also have a senior this year. She has been a jewel to raise. Horse trainer, violin player, 9 years now, has been offered to college at 15. She'll make news someday. Not an antichrist worshiper. She knows the difference. Ron
- Compensation for having childrenCaught part of the show on Sunday about the decline of births in the U.S. and the idea to compensate for having children. Countries in Europe are in danger of losing their heritage due to immigration and low birth rates. Wasn't able to listen to the whole show except caught Alan's idea to pay "families" to have children. Children are a blessing but in order to take emotion out of the situation there are several things to be considered. Paying stable, self sufficient "husband/wife" families is an interesting idea though pretty far fetched. I think is more important to consider compensating some people actually not to have children. If a person or family cannot support children without any type of public assistance they should actually be paid not to have children, otherwise you continue to promote the welfare and public assistance that is draining this country's economy and its values. This may seem politically incorrect, but just having more babies is not the answer. The good lord gave us all reproductive organs but that does not necessarily give people the right to bring life into the world that someone else will have to support. Alan, I know it is a show, but try to address the down side of some of your own issues instead of just hammering your opinion home.
- Dogs and Micael VickAllen is right on the money. The world is increasingly disinterested in people which is incredible because the world is made up of people. God made US in his image and likeness, not animals. What about Michael Vick? He a person. What he did and condonded was wrong. Show me the person who hasn't done something wrong, and let them judge us. Relativism is creeping into our society where each is developing their own sense of right and wrong. That leads us away from natural law and toward our own law. Scary prospect. Vick, regardless of what he did has a greater value in God's eyes and should in ours as well. The people who love dogs more than people need to examine their real motivations - self-interest, not selflessness.
- AllenThis guy is offensive on many levels. I will not listen to him ever again! WSB needs to get another evening host on Sunday.
- michael vickIt says something deeply distrubing about Allen Hunt's sense or morality that he thinks that people who love their dogs are "sinful" but that someone like Micheal Vick is a victim.
One of the recurring themes on Hunt's show is the total and deep affinity Hunt feels for any criminal. I once had a long e-mail exchange with him about Brian Nichols, who Allen sees not as a cold blooded murderer but as a victim of a "racist" society.
At base Allen is idol worshipper. His idol is humankind. He worships humans in the same way some people worship animals or trees. His sense of morality is so warped that he thinks that some old man who loves his dog is worse than a lowlife criminal like Vick. What sick, sick vision of the Christian faith. - family animalsYour comments on the radio on Sunday July 13 about Vick were just plain wrong. The public didn't humiliate him, he humilitated himself. These things he did to the dogs were done over and over and over again, year after year after year. A fund set up to help his dogs is right. He made the choice to abuse the dogs. The dogs had no choice in the matter. His outcome is up to him when he is released from prison - which is a very short time for the horrors he inflicted on the dogs.
- Allen Hunt ShowYours is the best talk show on the radio! It's real life isuues without a lot of politics.
